NATHANIEL SAVOY

Nathan Savoy is a poet, comedian, performer, and all-around pain in the ass. After graduating from Hampshire College in December 2016, (where he was liked but not well-liked,) he puttered around for a while like the first fifteen lines of ‘Howl,’ before realizing he looked like an ass, and really missed his friends. Armed with the knowledge that there was no way he could succeed on his own, Nathan set out to trick his old companions from Hampshire into collaborating with him on a touring show that would be the natural extension of his own Division III-- an intimate, low-to-the-ground production aimed at blending stand-up, storytelling, and poetry around the themes of growth, community, and mental health. Before he could trick them, however, they agreed. It was pretty great.

Nathan spent most of his childhood in the idyllic suburbs of Lexington, Massachusetts, where nothing much happened, no one was very happy, and the theater department at the local high school was good enough to intimidate him into avoiding it completely. His sisters, however, took to acting wholeheartedly, and it was through watching them grow and perform that Nathan began to gravitate towards comedy and performance. At the same time, close friends from home pushed Nathan to read and grow as much as possible-- their own successes and support fueling his drive to become the best he could be. Put on top of that two Ph.D. Psychologists for parents, both of whom worked to imbue him with a healthy respect for feelings and a love for teaching and boy, you got a stew going!

These days, Nathan can be found wandering around the country telling jokes, writing poetry, plotting to steal the dogs of others, and trying not to get caught going into the same Dunkin Donuts twice in one day. He is failing at some of these, but at least he’s failing with friends-- and that’s triumph enough for him
